Upscale Upcycling

Upcycling clothing can be very rewarding. I comb thrift stores for perfect finds. This skirt was made from a denim mini and polyester midi with a nice flow. I used the yoke off the midi and the denim hem off the mini for the floral embellishment. Even the mint-colored zipper from the midi skirt winds its way around the flower petals. And if you look closely, you can see the original zipper pull stitched into the design.

I love how this one-of-a-kind skirt catches the breeze!

Concept to Completion

For a special occasion, my daughter drew her own dream dress design (above). It was a pleasure to make her dream dress a reality.

Bold Botanical

Design doesn't get any simpler than this little black dress made from a two-way stretch knit. It's just three pieces--front, back, and sleeves. Even better, there's no zipper or buttons. This dress serges together in no time.

The challenge came in cutting it out. I bought the fabric on a remnant, which makes the dress very inexpensive, but having a limited amount of fabric gave me the opportunity to figure out just how to place each piece so I could get the stripe exactly where I wanted it. It was definitely cut close, but I love the result!
